The Hundredths mega-containership in Rotterdam

Thursday afternoon the Evelyn Maersk entered as the hundredths ultra large container carrier (ulcc) of 2010 the port of Rotterdam. The first ulcc, container ships whit more than 10,000 teu entered the port of Rotterdam three years ago. Now such vessels enters Rotterdam daily.

Maersk expect higher profit this year.

Maersks now expects to exceed the result from 2008. Maersk obtained a netto profit of 17.6 billion crown (2.8 billion euro) in 2008, followed by a loss of 5.5 billion crown in 2009. The forecast for this year is based on, however, on the assumption that freight rates, the oil prize and the exchange rate with respect to the dollar will remain stable. In the new profit expectation the sale of the share in Yantian-containerterminal in China is included. Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM communicated earlier these to Maersk Lines competitors yielded also already favorable results.
